At a high-security pharmaceutical warehouse in Northern California, perimeter panels faced repeated thermal stress due to unregulated airflow and heavy solar exposure. Uncontrolled wind pressure and high temperature spikes on west-facing walls caused overheating and accelerated wear of sensitive equipment inside. A retrofit was required that could maintain controlled airflow, reduce peak temperatures, enhance shading, and be installed externally without disrupting operations. Our solution integrated functional perimeter panels with metal sunshade and pressure-restricted airflow modules, combining shading, controlled ventilation, and structural durability. (1)
The facility contained 14 perimeter zones with walls measuring 10 m × 4 m, exposed to western sunlight and prevailing coastal winds. Internal temperatures reached 62 °C during peak hours, causing increased HVAC load and stress on temperature-sensitive storage. The retrofit involved post-mounted panels with integrated metal sunshade, perforations for limited light venting, and airflow-restricting louvers calibrated to maintain a defined pressure differential. The solution provided shading, passive airflow, and allowed future semi-active vent panel upgrades. Studies indicate pressure-restricted ventilated façades significantly reduce energy consumption while protecting sensitive equipment. (2)
Panels fabricated from 2.5 mm 6063-T6 aluminium alloy with PVDF coating RAL 9007, perforated at 15% open area. Each panel 1.5 m × 3 m, post-mounted with a 3° slope to enhance low-drainage performance. Brackets designed per ASCE 7 wind and uplift criteria, including torsional resistance. Pressure-restricted airflow louvers limit internal-external delta to<50 Pa, maintaining controlled environment. Thermal modelling predicted peak wall temperature reduction from 62 °C to 46 °C and cooling load reduction of 18%. (3)

Panels and airflow system tested per ASTM E330 and ASTM G154 for structural and coating durability. Airflow and cavity design adhered to ISO 15099 and ISO 6946.
