In 2024, a property developer managing a six-story office-retail hybrid structure in a dense urban corridor in the Middle East approached us for an envelope performance upgrade. The building had a curtain wall system facing southwest, experiencing extreme solar loading between 1–5 PM. Tenant complaints included irregular indoor temperatures, glare-induced discomfort, and rising cooling expenses. Additionally, the city imposed new energy performance regulations under ISO 52016 for commercial buildings.

Design Challenge: Blend High Function with Urban Aesthetics

The project required a lightweight, retrofittable external system that could cut down heat gain and blend into the structure’s modern façade. We were also tasked with improving passive airflow in stairwells and utility zones located on side walls. The client rejected bulky mechanical options due to maintenance restrictions and aesthetics.

Solution: Architectural Metal Sunshade Array and Minimal Vent Façade Panel Set

Our response was a hybrid aluminum solution—a staggered fin-style sunshade array above window bands combined with perforated cladding installed vertically along flanking wall zones.
